New Year’s Resolution: Write Michael a love letter every day.
I will get a mini-mailbox, keep it on the kitchen counter and ‘deliver’ a love letter to Michael every day of the new year.
That was my New Year’s Resolution and I thought it was fantastic. Michael would appreciate it. Everyone would be happy.
Sometimes they were short, sometimes they were long. Some were funny, some were serious. All were written and delivered. 365 times.
After one full year, we found ourselves staying up until midnight to ring in another new year together. Michael comes over to me. He hands me 365 notes. Every single day, since day one, he kept every single note. I had NO idea this was coming and you can imagine how cherished those little pieces of paper were.
When I think of New Year’s Resolutions, I think of the common goals that people set (Lose 20 pounds. Learn Spanish. Travel more.) and where they joke about being come March (Only down 3 pounds? Forget that. Hey cookies!)
What happened when I stuck with my resolution, however, ended up coming back to me ten times over. I had no idea that every little bit that I was giving each day would be recognized, cherished, held onto and given back to me after an entire year. Look at how all that love was returned back to me. WOW!
Imagine the impact that could have on you and those around you. It doesn’t have to cost you a thing and yet it will be the most valuable gift you ever give.
- Spend time with your kids every day–No Phones–Even if it can only be five minutes.
- Call your parents once a week.
- Donate to your favorite charity once a month.
You can’t pour from an empty cup so I truly encourage you to take care of yourself, too.
- Write 3 GOOD things that happened to you every day.
- Write a thank you to a client once a week.
- Go explore a new hike, city, state or country once a month.
Write them down. Please tell us, what are the three things you are giving and what are three things you are doing for yourself?
Make a resolution to learn more, give more, thanks more and love more. Write more love letters…
Professionally, as I contemplate a record-breaking, simply amazing year and I’m thinking about all the talent we are surrounded by, I can’t help but just be so appreciative of who I get to work with on a daily basis.
Shhhh…. can you hear it?
There is a soft hum coming from the universe… like a jet plane about to take off, a volcano about to explode, a fire about to ignite… tomorrow we don’t make our dent in the universe, we blow a hole in the universe.
A hole big enough to fit all the love in the world and channel it in a powerful stream of consciousness. Finally, the most underutilized superpower in the world has gone from potential energy to kinetic energy. There’s only one thing more powerful than an idea whose time has come.
There’s only one thing more powerful than LOVE.
That is Love in Action.
Cheers to a prosperous year!
